About ConvertFree

ConvertFree is a privacy-first online file converter that processes all files directly in your web browser. Unlike traditional converter websites, we never upload your files to any server — everything happens locally on your device using WebAssembly technology.

How It Works

Our converter uses FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly (WASM), which runs at near-native speed directly in your browser. When you select a file for conversion, the processing happens entirely on your device. The converted file is generated in your browser's memory and made available for download — no network transfer is involved at any point.

Why Privacy Matters

Traditional file converters require you to upload your files to their servers, where they are processed and (hopefully) deleted afterward. This creates security risks, especially for sensitive documents like legal evidence, medical recordings, financial reports, or personal media.

With ConvertFree, your files never leave your device. This makes our tool safe for professionals in regulated industries who handle confidential data — including lawyers, healthcare providers, and financial advisors — as well as anyone who simply values their privacy.

Who Built This

ConvertFree was created by Jonathan Pine, a developer in Wilmington, NC who got tired of uploading sensitive files to random converter websites. After seeing too many free converter tools with sketchy privacy practices and intrusive ads, he built ConvertFree as the tool he wanted to use himself — one that never touches your files.
